About MENZSHED Hokitika
MENZSHED Hokitika plays a valued role in the local social scene on the West Coast. As a MENZSHED NZ member since 2016, it provides men with a place to gather, share skills and contribute to preserving the region’s industrial heritage through practical projects. The club suits those who enjoy woodwork, restoration work and spending time with others in a relaxed setting focused on community history.
The Setting
Located at Industrial Road on the Hokitika Airport site, the club operates within a heritage park that began around thirty years ago. The park was created to safeguard machinery linked to Westland’s sawmilling, rail and road transport past. It continues to grow, now incorporating wooden artifacts such as boats and horse-drawn vehicles, with a woodwork shop currently being established to support this work.
