A Closer Look at Auckland Gliding Club

The Auckland Gliding Club stands as a cornerstone for aviation enthusiasts in New Zealand, specialising in the art of gliding. What makes our venue truly special is our own dedicated airfield, a testament to over 80 years of commitment from generations of members. Born in the late 1920s and early 1930s under the initial banner of the Auckland Model Aircraft Club, the club was formally incorporated on 16th July 1936. We mark our birthday on 30th April 1931, commemorating the pivotal Auckland Gliding Club meeting that set our course.

Today, our fleet of modern gliders allows members to experience the pure joy of unpowered flight, relying on thermals and ridge lift for breathtaking journeys. As a hobbies and special interests club focused on gliding, we foster a community where skill and passion converge. Nature plays a starring role in our operations, with local weather conditions dictating the day's possibilities. This dynamic element ensures every flight is unique, blending adventure with respect for the environment.

Our facilities support a range of activities, from training sessions to casual soaring, all underpinned by the hard work of dedicated volunteers who maintain our airfield and aircraft. Whether you're a novice drawn to the serenity of silent flight or an experienced pilot seeking new horizons, our gliding club provides the perfect setting to pursue this timeless pursuit.
